World Premiere of Triple Concerto by Elisenda Fabregas
We were honored to present the Triple Concerto on Sunday, February 8 in Atlanta, Georgia. See concert details. The piece was commissioned from Spanish-American composer Elisenda Fabregas and we performed it under the direction of Juan Ramirez, with the Atlanta Virtuosi. Highlights from the premiere performance can be viewed here. We will be performing the concerto again with the Grove City College Orchestra on Friday, April 24, 2015. See our concert page for details.
The members of Trio Nova Mundi span the Americas in their musical training and heritage. The trio strives to embrace this heritage by showcasing the music and composers of the New World, in part by performing new or lesser-known works alongside the classics. Since its inception in 2001, the trio has appeared in concert and with regional orchestras in the US, Africa, Mexico, and Ecuador.
The trio's membership has evolved over time and the 2012-2013 season launched with a dynamic all-women ensemble including founding member Maureen Conlon Gutierrez (violin), Elisa Kohanski (cello), and Becky Billock (piano). Its members have appeared as soloists with orchestras across the US, coached with members of the Orion, Emerson, and Tokyo quartets, and performed in such venues as Royal Albert Hall in London, Carnegie Hall in New York City, Schlossfestspiele in Heidelberg, Germany and the AIMS Opera Festival in Graz, Austria. Further honors include prizes in solo and chamber music competitions, numerous world premiere performances, extensive radio airplay in all major communities across the US, Canada, and Mexico, grants for both educational outreach and commissions of new works, and positive reviews in top musical publications including BBC Music Magazine, and Fanfare.
Trio Nova Mundi is committed to community outreach and the goal of bringing musical appreciation to younger audiences across the globe. In addition to performances in the US, the trio traveled to South Africa, Mozambique, and Zimbabwe in August/September 2013, where they concertized and engaged in educational outreach.
As well as performances in and around Pittsburgh, highlights from Spring 2014 include a collaboration with the percussion ensemble Identity Cubed performing at the Detroit Institute of Arts, and a tour to Mexico. The 2014-15 season includes the world premiere of a Triple Concerto commissioned by the trio from Spanish-American composer Elisenda Fabregas.
The members of Trio Nova Mundi serve on the faculty at Grove City College located in Western Pennsylvania, where their trio has been appointed the ensemble-in-residence.
